Cheryl Johnson MABC

I began my journey as a counselor in 2000 when I graduated from Central Washington University with a B.A. in Psychology. For the last ten years I have served in ministry alongside my husband as church planters. During that time, I served as a pastoral counselor for people within the church. I got a Master of Biblical Counseling from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2021. I am currently a graduate student at Colorado Christian University, completing my internship hours as a student counselor. I will receive a Master of Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree with a Marriage and Family Therapy emphasis.

I enjoy working with families and try to infuse each individual, couple and family with hope at the beginning of the counseling process. I offer Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) because I truly believe that every person and family that struggles has also experienced successes and victories that can be built upon to overcome their current difficulties. I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) because it helps people and couples discover the deeper meanings, values and hopes that drive their behavior and builds compassion and understanding into their relationships.

Gottman Theory is closely related to EFT and I use it, as well. We live in a broken world that leaves many people wounded, isolated, and broken down. I believe that people, families and couples can experience hope and healing no matter the struggle, trauma, or complexity. Healing takes place in community and relationships. That may start with a therapeutic relationship with me, but my vision is for people to find community and support around them from which they can both gain support and give it in return. There is healing after pain and hope in the midst of darkness. I look forward to walking alongside you as you find your path into a beautiful future.
